Here's a new one in my carnival series. I will probably want to make some changes like I did to this 'blue cans' - I changed the direction of the tent on the far right. There's something about putting my paintings up on the blog first and then seeing what final tweaking I need to do.
I love the bright colors at carnivals - can't stand to be at them, but always check them out before or after to see all the tents. (I'm not ready to let go of summer yet.)
I just got back from a great trip to California to visit family and see an amazing show. Jay Farrar put Jack Kerouac's Big Sur to music and put out an album with Ben Gibbard as an offshoot of the new documentary One Fast Move Or I'm Gone, and they had a short tour. Talk about artistry, and a very haunting story - absolutely beautiful.
I just confirmed this morning that I'm doing a show in May at my favorite restaurant here in Athens. Yay! It's a great venue for art because not only does the artwork look good on the walls, but everybody in town goes to Casa to eat or drink at least once a week, so the artwork gets great exposure.
This painting goes with on that I did this summer (July 15th post), and hope to do more of a series of. I like them as 8x8s, but I think they will look good larger too. I just can't decide how much larger yet. For some reason, anything I paint on 12x12 doesn't work as well, so I'm thinking I've got to go up to 16" or 20". I don't know, I'm still thinking about it.
This one was so much fun to do. It was one of those that didn't look like it was working the entire time I was painting, then when I stepped back to look, voila-it had all come together to make an image.
This might turn into a larger painting. I'm trying to paint things more quickly to keep them fresh, so I don't know how that will work with repeating one in a larger format.
Here's one that I followed the actual colors and composition closely and ended up not too happy with it. So now I'm reworking it and will have the new version up in a couple of days.
This is the coffee shop in Russell's real estate building. If you live nearby (Athens, O) you should check it out. It's a wonderful space with beautiful views of the river.
Something simple today. More scenes from my new job. It's funny, once I've done a painting of a place, every time I see it afterward I feel like I have a kind of 'ownership' of it because I've studied it and come to know it so well.
Thanks for checking out my daily painting blog. I will be adding paintings to my site almost daily. Please feel free to comment. Like any artist, I can always use feedback. If you are interested in purchasing a painting, please contact me at mechamberlain15@gmail.com.
